Tasting Notes

Nose: Deep bittersweet apple, leather, spices, fruitcake

Mouth: Lemon sherbet, black fruits, butterscotch from the malolactic fermentation, gentle astringency from the tannins that balance the sweetness and acidity

Finish: A lingering apply finish, hay straw and stewed apple

Food Pairing

To start, Orchard Reserve’s medium sweetness goes particularly well with a salty charcuterie board or walnut and blue cheese salad.

For mains, the tannins will cut through fatty foods and meats, especially a slow roast pork belly where the cider’s natural sugars compliment the caramelisation. The sweetness also balances the heat and aromatics of a curry – try lamb or goat.

For desert, anything with apple, caramel or flaky pastry works wonders, particularly apple tarte tatin.

The sweetness, acidity and rich apple will also enhance the flavour of cheese – the West Midlands has plenty to choose from: a mature cheddar like a Worcester Gold; a blue cheese like Shropshire Blue; or a Ragstone goats’s cheese from Neal’s Yard Creamery.

  • In The Orchard

    All our fruit is unsprayed.

We use specially-selected, low intensity, traditional orchards local to Herefordshire and the Teme Valley.

We take the orchards whole, with a mix of traditional cider apple varieties: Dabinett, Yarlington Mill, Foxwhelp, Tom Putt, Kingston Black and Harry Masters Jersey to name a few. This gives a rounded and balanced flavour.

Some of the varieties present are no longer grown commercially.

  • In the Cider Works

Robinsons Orchard Reserve cider is pressed, fermented, matured and blended in a traditional way.

We use a wine making technique we call "cold crashing" to halt the fermentation early, leaving a medium cider sweetened only with its own natural sugars. This gives a much richer apple flavour.

We then blend in some fully fermented, mature cider to give added depth and complexity.

  • A glass of Robinsons Cider

    In the Glass

Bright and clean with mellow tannins, rich colour and deep apple flavour. It's hard to find a more pure expression of Herefordshire and the Teme Valley.
